Sketch Travel - 71 Masters of Illustration - Book Review

Sketch Travel from Chronicle Books is a hardback reproduction of an ambitious and collaborative project started by artists Dice Tsutsumi and Gerald Guerlais. For the benefit of children in need and the non-profit literacy organisation Room to Read, one solitary red sketchbook travelled 75,000 miles across the globe passing through the hands of 71 accomplished artists, animators and painters each given the task of filling one spread with anything they like, just as long as it features said red sketchbook.

With contributions from renowned creative talents such as Quentin Blake, John Howe and Hayao Miyazaki the original sketchbook and subsequent limited editions managed to raise over $100,000 at auction financing the opening of five new libraries in Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Vietnam; plus the publication of one new children’s book in each country.

Beyond these commendable good deeds lies a book full of diverse and creative work and i’m very pleased to be able to give away a copy, absolutely free to one of my readers.

Entry is simple; Suggestion of a second Sketch Travel project is already out there, so all you have to do is name one artist that you’d like to see in Sketch Travel 2 and then share this post via Facebook or Twitter. You’ll then be automatically entered into the price draw that will take place Friday Dec 14th.* What better an opportunity to bag yourself an early Christmas present!
